Psychotherapy Myths & Scientific Realities
Addressing the myths and scientifically proven realities of psychotherapy, this dynamic presentation will be of immediate practical value to therapists interested in improving their outcomes with a wide range of clients.
Join us in learning about:
- the “active ingredients” of effective psychotherapy,
- how human thinking, emotions and perception often limit one’s ability to problem solve and resolve mental illness patterns, and
- methods necessary to improve outcomes beyond the “evidence-based” benchmarks.
Presenter: Steven Szykula, PhD
Dr. Szykula received his Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Tennessee.
He has published and presented over one hundred research papers and has published three self- help books, one of which is titled Get Off the Bus, a book about mindfulness-focused therapy.
Nationally, Dr. Szykula has consulted with state agencies, private mental health insurance companies, jails and prisons, physical rehabilitation hospitals and companies that provide behavioral health services. He was the first to provide psychological services to the elderly in nursing homes in Utah.
Dr. Szykula and has served on the Board of Directors at Polizzi Clinic since 2011 and was a key contributor to its inception, providing free office space for Polizzi services.
Over the past thirty years Dr. Szykula has directed Comprehensive Psychological Services, which has grown to be one of the largest multi-specialty private behavioral health clinics west of the Mississippi. Dr. Szykula’s special interest, research and practice have been in the area of psychotherapy processes and outcomes.
